David Wachenfeld is a marine biologist who has worked on coral reefs in the Red Sea, Indian Ocean and throughout the Pacific. Since 1992, David has lived and worked right in the middle of the Great Barrier Reef in Townsville. He has dived almost the whole 2000km length of the Great Barrier Reef, from Raine Island in the north to Heron Island in the south. Having done a PhD in the behaviour and ecology of coral reef fish, David has a particular passion for the reef environment and its inhabitants. His speciality is underwater photography, but he also photographs a wide variety of wildlife above the water. As well as photography, David works at the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. Working to protect the reef is as important to him as photographing and admiring its beauty.
