Doug Perrine has worked as a marine biologist, naturalist/educator, and diving instructor and has been a full time photographer/writer specializing in marine wildlife since 1986. He is the author of seven books on marine life as well as numerous magazine articles. His photographs have appeared in thousands of magazines, newspapers, and books, including over 100 covers. A short sample of his publication credits would include National Geographic Magazine (and other NGS publications), BBC Wildlife, International Wildlife, Natural History, Ocean Realm, Time, Newsweek, U.S. News and World Report, Wildlife Conservation, Audubon, Elle, Islands, Omni, Outside, Nature’s Best, and Smithsonian. His images of sea creatures have also been used on many greeting cards, calendars and other products. His photographs have won a number of awards, including the British Gas Wildlife Photographer of the Year award in animal behavior, and the Nature’s Best/ Cemex award in marine life. Perrine is known as a specialist in large marine animals, and in marine wildlife behavior. He earned a master’s degree in marine biology from the University of Miami, and has participated in scientific research on many of his subjects, including whales, dolphins, sharks, manatees, and sea turtles. He has been hired as a scientific consultant for films produced for the National Geographic Society, Discovery Channel, Tokyo Broadcasting System, and others.
