Reg Morrison was born in England, lived his childhood in Sri Lanka, and came to Australia as a refugee in 1944. He went to school in Melbourne and London, and on his return to Australia worked as a newspaper reporter and then staff photographer on two Perth newspapers. He moved to Sydney in 1971 and in 1972 became staff photographer and picture editor for Lansdowne Press, Australia's largest book publishing company at that time. He began his freelance career in 1984 and lives in Sydney with his wife Pauleen.
Although photographic assignments have on occasions taken Reg to India, Hong Kong, Singapore, Bali, America and Hawaii, most of his 50 years’ behind the camera have been devoted to documenting Australia’s landscape, its people, and its plants and animals. For the past 25 years he has specialised in evolutionary and environmental topics. His latest book, The Diary of You (Sydney: Sainty and Associates, 2008) is aimed at Australian High School students and lays out the major biological milestones that their genes have passed in their journey to the modern world.
