Attila Bicskos is an award wining photojournalist who has been recording images since 1969, moving into motion picture productions in the early 1970’s.
After a few short films and awards, Attila worked in television as a news and current affairs cameraman, covering popular programmes such as Good Morning Australia, and several arts and sports shows for SBS television.
He has worked on several Documentary, Corporate and Television programmes as Director, Cameraman, Scriptwriter and Producer.
Although Natural History, both terrestrial and marine became his prime focus of attention and conviction, Commercial, Industrial and Fashion photography broadened the scope of his work and enabled him to travel widely and be recognised and published in many magazines and books internationally, with work exhibited in the Australian Museum and CSIRO Ecology Centre. As a leading photographer he has worked with most marine animals and a wide range of land animals from over the world.
A Conservationist since childhood, Attila always had great motivation and passion to pursue conservation measures to better protect the Australian ecology. Attila was at the forefront in having Grey Nurse Sharks recognised as a vulnerable species requiring government protection in the early 1980’s.
He was also one of a small group of Conservationists who pioneered a campaign to prevent the Navy from relocating the Newington Armaments Depot from Sydney to Jervis Bay. This campaign was only second in magnitude to the Franklin River campaign in Tasmania, the biggest ever seen in Australia.
As a result of the campaign and a film made by Attila about Jervis Bay’s ecosystem (formally shown at Federal Parliament, the first conservation film to do so), the Government abandoned the Jervis Bay site, and began dialog about establishing the region as a marine park. Jervis Bay Marine Park was formally declared in 1998, covering 220 square kilometres. Attila is the Chair of the Jervis Bay Marine Park Authority Advisory Committee and President of the Jervis Bay Regional Alliance. |
